The offense will need to be competent (limit three & outs and turnovers) and timely (don’t lose contact). If Iowa can go into Happy Valley and come away like they did in 2009, it’ll be enough to make me think anything is truly possible with this team.įor that to happen, the defense will need to be stellar, per usual. BUT, the possibilities that arise from being the fly in the ointment on a Penn State white out game? It’s the first “just win, baby” game of the season. If they were any other team with any other offensive coordinator, the optimism of talent influx via portal would feel real to me dammit.īut until I see that happen, I’m gonna be cynical and perhaps unnecessarily. I know I’ve been a little surly about Iowa’s 2023 prospects but if we are being honest, Iowa should skate through their first three games and put some points on the board. Brandon Smith’s fourth quarter touchdown breathed life into Iowa’s chances before a failed two-point conversion and decision to kick deep sealed Iowa’s fate. Iowa busted out the banana peels and struggled mightily on offense for the second straight game after being held to three points at Michigan. Worst case - 12 points : The flipside is looking at 2019’s arguably low point. The 41 simultaneously seems inflated and deflated, as Iowa went into prevent mode after a third quarter touchdown from Mekhi Sargent put them up 24. Taking a look at games where Brian Ferentz was offensive coordinator to identify best and worst cases in his “Climb to 325”īest case - 41 points : Iowa’s 2020 reached a climax in an empty stadium against the Nits, as they finally ended a six-game losing streak punctuated by Daviyon Nixon’s exclamation point. He added 3 interceptions as the guy opposite Joey Porter, Jr. Kalen King (#4, CB, Jr., 5’11”, 190 lbs): Those passes deflected? King was the guy who led the way with a mind-boggling 16 last season to lead the conference. It was a scab opponents picked at against Iowa time and again last year. While many of his highlights come as part of a blitzer in PSU’s scheme, it’s worth noting just how quickly he gets into the backfield through the center of opponents’ offensive line. He added 14 touchdowns, 12 on the ground and one for a kick return. The latter was good for second in the conference. Nicholas Singleton (#10, RB, So., 6’0”, 228 lbs): As a freshman, Singleton amassed over 1000 rushing yards at 6.8 yards/carry. It compares incredibly favorably to Iowa’s number (46) but really, it’s a function of what each team asks their guys to do. Iowa took advantage of their aggressiveness with the game-winning score in 2021 but they’ll be a tough test for an offensive line which hasn’t played together yet.Ĩ3 passes deflected : With their emphasis on getting to the QB, the Nittany Lions leverage more press coverage to force early throws into tight windows. Last year’s 3.2 sacks/game ranked 8th in the nation. +17.5: PSU was top 20 in scoring offense & defense, culminating in the 6th best scoring margin in the nation.ģ.2 sacks/game: Part of what keeps their defense in the upper echelon is their hectic front seven which attacks the backfield. Last year, they bounced back after an underwhelming couple of years, capped with their third New Year’s Six bowl win. Why: they have rotated onto Iowa’s schedule as determined by the Big Ten Conference 4 StatsĤ 11-win seasons: Over the last 7 years, Franklin has had Penn State humming with a 64 wins, tied for 10th in the nation. What: Iowa’s first game on CBS in decades Head Coach: James Franklin 78-36 (.684) in 9 years at PSU, 102-51 (.667) in 12 seasons overall Who: Penn State Nittany Lions (University Park, PA Big Ten Conference) Up next are the Penn State Nittany Lions who figure to be the toughest opponent on Iowa’s schedule. It’s that time of year again: I crack open my trusty laptop which still has Yahoo! as the default search engine and begin the football previews.

In the game's 100% ending, a miniature, inanimate version of Olivia created by the Origami Craftsman appears in the scaled-down model of Origami Castle, alongside a similarly scaled down version of her brother, fulfilling the role their creator had originally intended for them. At the end of the game, Mario reminisces over Olivia while he and Peach watch fireworks. This also erases her existence, since Olly was the one who first folded her. Olivia wishes to undo all the origami Olly ever folded. With the help of the Origami Craftsman, Olivia finishes folding the final crane for the Thousand Cranes technique. Olivia is deeply upset as King Olly dies. King Olly regrets his villainy and makes a final request to Olivia to fold his remains into the final crane for the Thousand Cranes technique to amend his wrongdoings. She notices the mark on his body and reads it for him, telling him that it is a sweet message from the Origami Craftsman. She can also take on the appearances of the Vellumentals, and transforms into a giant hammer for Mario to use in the final fight with King Olly.Īfter the battle, Olivia fears she went too far with her hammer attack on King Olly, realizing that she mortally wounded her brother. Olivia only cheers up when Mario uses a Goomba Mask to make a funny face, making her realize that Bob-omb wouldn't want her to be sad. Olivia is usually very cheerful, but when Bob-omb sacrifices himself to save her from a boulder in Sweetpaper Valley she becomes uncharacteristically sad. Olivia was responsible for naming Bob-omb "Bobby", and enables Mario to use Magic Circles. Olivia travels with Mario on his journey, explaining the battle system and how to fill in Not-Bottomless Holes. Mario filled the bottomless pit with confetti and freed Olivia who was stuck on the ground. Before Mario could reunite with Olivia, she warned Mario about the bottomless pit and gave him an Empty Confetti Bag. However, Mario, Olivia, Bowser and the Shy Guy fell off the Koopa Clown Car into different locations.Īfter Mario and Olivia fell into Whispering Woods. Mario finds the Key to Peach's Castle stuck in a tailpipe on Luigi's Kart. Mario, Olivia, and Bowser escaping Hotfoot Crater. Kamek using magic to hold back the Paper Macho Goombas. Paper Macho Goombas dropping into Hotfoot Crater. A Shy Guy on a Koopa Clown Car came to Mario, Olivia and Bowser's aid and escaped the castle. The volcano that Peach's Castle rests on. King Olly fulfilled his promise to create a new origami kingdom. After defeating the Folded Soldiers, the yellow folded Shy Guy introduced himself as King Olly as it shocked Olivia. Olivia cheered for Mario to defeat the Folded Soldiers. Regardless of Mario's answer, it ordered the Folded Soldiers to fight Mario. The yellow folded Shy Guy asked Mario if he wants to join their cause. Mario exited the dungeon and a yellow folded Shy Guy and Origami Peach. Mario freed Bowser from the peg and joined Mario and Olivia to escape the dungeon. Escaping the dungeon, Mario and Olivia found Bowser clinging on the peg and Olivia alarmed Mario about the Folded Soldiers. In the castle dungeon, Mario freed Olivia from the sealed wall and she joined forces with Mario. Spoiler warning : Don't you even dare read the spoiler! These minerals will break down after contact with the water leading to a lesser resistance to weathering. This happens in certain rocks that are (partially) composed of minerals that react to water or chemicals in the water. Several types of chemical weathering are found along coasts: With rocks already being relatively chemically unstable, the water, mostly in combination with other chemical substances, such as oxygen and carbon dioxide, will change the composition of the rock, gradually leading to the disintegration of the rock. So, how does chemical weathering work? Both rain- and seawater can be weak acids. This type of weathering changes the chemical composition of a rock. This expansion and contraction of minerals are most effective on clay and in micro-tidal environments.Ĭhemical weathering involves the decomposition of rocks because of a chemical reaction between the rock and water. The constant expansion and contraction will lead the clay-rich rock to crack. The clay-rich soil you often find on the coast expands when wet and contracts when dry. Wetting and drying (water-layer weathering) This type of weathering is most effective on high latitude coasts that have significant rainfall. Repeated freezing and thawing will eventually cause the rock to split/disintegrate. When it thaws, the water is released from the crack, leaving behind a bigger crack than before. This water freezes, making the water expand and creating a bigger crack. This is the primary weathering that occurs in coastal areas. The heat expands the crystals, exerting enormous pressure on the rock, causing it to disintegrate. Saltwater collects in cracks in rocks and cliff faces warm (er) temperatures evaporate the water and leave the salt crystals behind. The table below summarises the information mentioned above and the effects on coasts in particular. 4 - The Wash estuary in East Anglia, an example of wetting and drying Mechanical weathering effects on coasts This clay often gets wet and then dries, cracking the clay.įig. This estuary is located on the coast and has a lot of clay. Another name for saltwater crystal growth is haloclasty.Īn example is the Wash, an estuary on the East coast in East Anglia, UK. The crystals put immense pressure on the rock, causing it to break. When the temperatures rise, the crystals heat up and expand. When salty seawater collects in cracks in rocks, crystals form when that salt water evaporates, leaving only the salt particles behind. Let's look at the mechanical weathering processes applicable to coasts in a bit more detail. While there are different types of weathering and weathering processes, considering our primary focus is on coasts, we will be looking at the weathering types that are relevant to coastal landscapes, namely: Mechanical weathering involves disintegration or rocks breaking up into smaller pieces with no chemical composition changes. Rock is broken up or disintegrated because of a variety of physical factors. Mechanical weathering, also known as physical weathering, is achieved through physical processes, such as temperature fluctuation, frost action and abrasion. This shows a greater depth of understanding and can help you to unlock those higher marks. When discussing weathering in exam answers, try to be specific about what type of weathering you are talking about. To paraphrase Bret from Flight of the Conchords, “I want to tell this trailer how hot it is, but it’ll think I’m sexist. Not sure about the Tim Roth element, but Joe Gage is a hilarious name for the Michael Madsen role. Daisy Domergue signals perfection! And Kurt Russell hasn’t looked so good in ages. Well, it’s about time Jennifer Jason Leigh and Tarantino got together. If this film disappoints, I may swear off going to the movies altogether. This will be my Xmas gift to myself this year. In the hands of Quentin, this will likely be a Mad Hatter party of biblical scale. A repertory of his favorite actors from past films, locked together in single room for three days. In a nutshell, this looks like the same type of character driven, action/drama that QT gave us with Reservoir Dogs. *Tim Roth! AND Michael Madson! Together again! (whole head explodes) *Sam Jackson! And Kurt Russell! And Tarantino! (brain explodes) *Kurt Russell! Jack Burton! The Thing! YAY!!!! So, here’s what I was thinking as I watched the trailer. I’m so excited I can’t even put my thoughts down in an organized coherent way. After watching a few more times, I’ve learned to appreciate it more, but I still pine for the days of QT films like Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill. I’m a huge fan of classic Italian westerns, not to mention the iconic Django, and I thought Quentin’s take was a little uneven. To be honest, I felt a little let down by Django. This looks like the Tarantino film I’ve been waiting on since Inglorious Basterds. The opening seconds of The Hateful Eight had me twitching in anticipation like a child on Xmas morning. Whoever put this teaser trailer together earned their salary today because I’m definitely… um… teased and, by golly, I want more. But that’s just pretentious, isn’t it, and reveals more about me than this trailer, I guess.Īll this gets me wondering if this why they call these things “Teaser Trailers”? Is it because they tease you into thinking about all the things that this movie could be? Or is it simply to tease you into wanting to be teased some more before you decided to commit? Whatever. But then you got Kurt Russell in a snow storm telling us that “ one of them fellas is NOT what he says he is” and I go all John Carpenter’s The Thing in my noggin and start to wonder if there will indeed be some sort of alien nastiness going on, which then makes me think about 2011’s Cowboys & Aliens staring Daniel Craig, and who the hell wants to think about that? Then, of course, towards the end of the trailer when there is that juxtaposition between a snowstorm on the prairie and the E ight Strangers/One Deadly Connection captions go up, I start mentally thumbing through the pages of Stephen Crane’s The Blue Hotel. I mean the obvious one is that there is a sort of classic Tarantino film Reservoir Dogs/Pulp Fiction vibe going on here, you know, with the ensemble cast and, of course, the Samuel L. But as I watched the thing, my brain started to get flooded with all sorts of random cultural references and, as what happens when you succumb to the anxiety of influences, I started to have a hard time telling the difference between what I was actually watching and what I thought it reminded me of. So I just watched the “Official Teaser Trailer” for Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming The Hateful Eight and, yeah, it got my attention. The trailer also solidifies my opinion that Tarantino is just making movies he wants to see I’m glad we have similar tastes. It’s an inspired choice that will hopefully be appreciated by the audience. Shooting the whole thing in Panavision makes up for the lack of my dream cast. The Hateful Eight looks like it will be an excellent companion piece to Django Unchained, and it features nearly every actor I want to see in a film, though I was crossing my fingers to see Jeff Bridges, Sam Elliott, or Ian McShane. I will admit that I am in the full throes of super hero franchise fatigue and am ambivalent about ninety percent of the movies that receive a wide release in theaters. The trailer for The Hateful Eight is the most exciting trailer I have seen since Mad Max: Fury Road. Photo Organizer is a software that can smartly optimize your photo collection on Windows.
